Trying to create an external site and internal testing site

Hi we currently have a domain facing outward with the name http://example.com but I would like to create a second idential site called http://testing-example.com for testing and development purposes.
How do I do that?
I tried changing the site name and wp name but the site would break when I tried to change them.

Please help?
