I know, from reading various plug-in instructions, that it’s possible to have zenphoto (a photo gallery) share a MySQL database with WordPress, which I would very much like to make happen, as my host only allows one for what I’m willing to pay.

However, I’m not sure how to do this, or even if it’s recommended (and I couldn’t find mention of it in the instructions). I know the two sets of data are kept separate by prefixes, but zenphoto, which was installed first, has no prefix for its entries, and I think I’d have to redo it all to put them there. Is it still possible to let them share a database without confrontation?

Anybody? The database question isn’t zenphoto-specific; what I would like to know is if it’s wise to install wordpress into a database already including a set of non-prefixed entries, if the wordpress installation will have prefixes.

WordPress uses a prefix for all its database tables. This prefix defaults to “wp_” and is defined in the wp-config.php file. You can change this prefix there if you like, this is usually used to run more than one copy of WordPress from the same database.

So unless your other program has some tables starting with “wp_”, it won’t make much difference.

Thanks a bunch. 🙂 Should be fine, then.
