• Hi, I have downloaded the latest version on wordpress and adjusted the database / username / password accordingly to the wp-config.php.
I have uploaded the directory of files including the updated file to my website.

Then I followed the URL directory (…/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php)to the correct location but all i get is a “Error establishing a database connection”

I then double checked everything to see if i have missed anything but when i checked everything seems like its been done as the instructions state. Does anyone have any advise or would there be anything I could have missed. I’m sure its something really obvious and staring me in the face. But so far I have no idea….

  • The only possibilities are:

    1. I know you are certain, but check again if connection info in the wp-config.php are correct.

    2. See if your MySQL server uses a different port number other than 3306

    3. See if your MySQL server is indeed up and running.

The other thing too is to check your server connection. If you are hosting your site at a hosting provider, not all hosts let you use locahost. Some have their own server settings that you must use.

You might want to contact your hosting provider. They might be able to look at the wp-config.php file for you. I know that in the past, I contacted bluehost and they fixed the error for me.

Grateful for any support here: I purchased a domain name and wordpress website, .org vs .com, I do not know nor how to determine this. I am excited to learn wordpress, but am new and have few skills. Also, I have yet to down load the latest wordpress software to my macbook pro 2012. My main concern is, how should I go about gaining control of the website or log in for the first time? I am currently using iPage to host the website an my domain name is held at Godaddy. Thank you kindly.

@loseweightvege: As per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. Your problem is completely different.
