I’m using the “online backup for wordpress” plug-in and have it scheduled for a daily backup to an email made just for the backups.

I understand the backups contains all the articles etc…

However I was wondering if it covered the theme/plug-in data for as well. Ideally, I’d like a complete duplicate backup so if I were to restore it everything including the plug-in data like Newsletter would be the exact same.

    Thanks!

  • It’s not possible to do a complete restore of your theme/plugins/Wordpress with out both a database backup AND all the files, including your plugins and theme and WordPress files.

However, actual data created by an installed plugin that creates content in your WP will be in your database.

Example: a mail list plugin … data of subscribe users would be in your WP database.

    Thanks for clearing that up!

Would the best way to back “everything” up completely just to do a directory backup from the FTP on my web host?

To back up files, I use a goof FTP program.

I use a plugin to back up my database

The Codex here is the best detailed explanation of creating a regular back up plan

ALL WP “Longtimers” will tell you – backup, backup, and backup!! You only need one problem to make it all worth while 🙂

    Thanks for the help.

I’ve got a plug-in that does a daily backup so I’ll just do a backup every couple of days of my web hosting directory 🙂
