Edit image- Rotating issue

hi can someone tell me what I am doing wrong as I cannot upload the images I want. I am using add media, browsing to the image that is showing it is the correct way up and even on picture manager showing it is the right way up. upload image and then it is showing it sideways. go to edit image and try to rotate image and it says

“Could not load the preview image. Please reload the page and try again”

I have tried again several times, different images, changed image names, even tried to rotate on picture manager to sideways to see if it would go back to upright position but it just uploaded sideways again. I have updated to the latest wordpress too to see if that works but no. please someone help getting stressed lol
