Support » Plugin: UpdraftPlus: WordPress Backup & Migration Plugin » Works well, relatively simple configuration

  • Works consistently well for a whole pile of client websites hosted on a shared (reseller) account. I’ve had many issues with similar plugins so was happy to find something that wouldn’t simply “hang up” when server response was not snappy enough.

Minor suggestion – It’d be great if I could choose to back-up the entire wp-content folder as a single .zip file (would make it a lot quicker to restore broken sites).

Note – I do have issues with the download buttons in the Dashboard (files are present in AWS) not working consistently. Not sure if this is due to my own configuration (I don’t keep local copies of the back-ups, just S3) or a bug in the plugin. Not too worried since I can still go into my AWS console to grab those files.

    Hi,

Thanks for the helpful report. I’d imagine that the “Download” buttons are simply timing out on too-large files… the backup operation itself can and must be able split itself over multiple runs, for reliability; but when someone clicks that button, you’ve got one shot only. I haven’t prioritised re-working that since, as you say, you can just go direct to S3 and it’s just a convenience feature.

The present trunk version (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/updraftplus/developers/) now performs downloads (when hitting a download button in the console) asynchronously, and can resume.

That means that it’s not relying on your browser not timing out, and if the server process dies it can pick up where it left off. Now it should be possible to download any file, no matter how large, from the console.
