    Hi,
    Very recently we upgraded to the latest version of WordPress. Now when reviewing our listing in Google for different keywords, we found that some of our posts’ titles are being truncated & a very short version of the post title is being shown. Here’s an example;

    If you do a search for “jquery redirect” (without quotes), you will see the post title on the 9th slot with the title “Redirect Page jQuery – Extreme Web Designs”. The link will take you to:
    http://www.theextremewebdesigns.com/blog/jquery-redirect-redirect-page-jquery-redirect-page-jquery-after-5-seconds/

    That linked URL is correct. No issues with the URL Linking. However, the actual problem is with the actual post title. When the post is edited, in the title area, the post title is “jQuery Redirect | Redirect Page jQuery | Redirect Page jQuery after 5 seconds”.

    From the above, we can clearly see, that the first part & the last part of the post title are cut off & only the middle part is being shown. This is really shocking (& annoying). It simply does not make any sense as to why that should happen after the WordPress update. This is the first time, we are seeing such an issue. This is, in our view, affecting our rankings in search engines as 2/3rds of the Post titles are being cut off.

    Can anyone please throw light on this issue? Can this bug be rectified & fixed at the earliest?

    If anyone else has the same issue & managed to solve such a similar problem, please post a solution so that we can fix the issue & regain normalcy for our blog http://www.theextremewebdesigns.com/blog/. Until then, we have our fingers crossed.

    All help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • check the output of the meta title, for instance by viewing the code in the broswer; if they have not changed and if they are showing the proper titles, then it is a google problem.

    if the meta title is wrong in your site, then it might be a problem with your seo plugin Yoast WordPress SEO

    Thanks for the prompt reply. Based upon your suggestion, viewing the source code of the article located at http://www.theextremewebdesigns.com/blog/jquery-redirect-redirect-page-jquery-redirect-page-jquery-after-5-seconds/, reveals the following.

    The title of the page in the head tags is “jQuery Redirect | Redirect Page jQuery | Redirect Page jQuery after 5 seconds”. That is correct.

    So does that mean it is a Google problem? I personally never came across such an issue ever nor did I hear anyone else say anything about it. It really does not make sense why the results show up this way after the upgrade. Could it have been an un-noticed bug in the most recent version of the WordPress core?

    Because the complete title appears, that means that Yoast SEO is not the problem. So it has be something else. Either a bug or Google problem. If former, can someone please fix it? If latter, can someone please suggest a remedy for it?

    Thank you.

    ‘a google problem’ means that you have to ask in a google forum or contact google about it;

    there is no control over what a search engine does show in the search results.

    Oh ok, thanks for the explanation. I will try asking in the Google forum.
