Help Modifying Gamepress Theme

I’m very new to wordpress, about 1 weeks experience. I’m wanting to modify my home page, which is also my blog posts.

This is what my homepage currently looks like:

I happened to notice this alternate format when searching by month:
http://myoelectric.net/2013/01/

I would much prefer to use this format as my home page. I hoped it would be a simple matter of copying the conents from one PHP to another but it didn’t look right. I would get about half the contents but not the blue date box to the left.

Any ideas where a noob should start?
