   help please - very new to this and have no real idea of what i'm doing, have had website for a month and would like to add visitor counter - does wordpress offer one? how do i go about inputting it

   well you can go with statcounter or site meter, put the html code they give you in your footer file

   Or you can install this plugin

   or if you just want a counter at the bottom of your page there are numerous free ones or you can configure statcounter to look like an ordinary counter. They do it for you, you just check a button.
