• Hi all, I’m putting together two new WP sites and have been thinking I’d build the sites then get the domain name and direct the DNS later. But reading the help issues related to moving a WP site it sounds like it’s really best to set up the DNS and hosting directory first, then do a new WP install. My service lets me host domains in sub directories. So i’ll be pointing the domain to a sub-directory off my root.

Is it best to set up the domain name, point it to the sub directory, then install WP? Do I need a separate WP install for each site to be created?

    Thanks!

  • Unless you are confident that you will be able ot move your installation, it’s better to get the hosting and DNS set up before you strat. It jsut makes it easier then having to go through all of the steps to change the domains around later on.

You don’t need a separate install for each WP site. You can set up a Network installation. Be aware that if you do this it is a fair bit more difficult to move individual sites away then it is to transfer a stand-alone site.
