This is in response to a thread you started just a little while ago with the title: “Yes, it’s your forum and your rules …”
While I cannot explain why your topic was suddenly closed (I saw no objectionable language or tone that warranted either in your comments) and unless something transpired that I did not witness, I am at a complete loss as to why your topic would have not only be closed, but then immediately deleted while I was in the process of attempting to respond.
In any case, I certainly may not have all the facts – other than what I saw myself – but here is the reply I was attempting to make when your topic was abruptly closed and removed.
– As a long time participant and fairly active member of the forums, I can understand how on first inspection that might seem the case. I don’t think anyone who participates here on a regular basis – including the vast majority of moderators – would every take exception to anyone contributing to the quality of information added to any topic, as long as it’s on point.
However; I think the greater issue of individuals randomly jumping into or on top of pre-existing topics to ask for assistance on what they believe are similar issues is what prompts that response in most cases. I can tell you from first hand experience, that if you are positive you have the exact same issue as an existing topic, the contribution is appreciated, but more often than not that usually isn’t the case.
Starting your own topic really gives you a much higher advantage and probability of getting a faster, higher quality response to your own issue – whether it appears to be the same as one that someone else has started or not. The biggest reason being, that most of the individuals who regularly respond here, will pay attention to threads with no responses first, in the assumption that one with many responses is probably already being handled.
So, it really does pay in the long run not to hijack someone else’s thread – but, I don’t think anyone who uses a reasonable approach to problem solving would ever decline to have another opinion added to an unresolved issue.

If I may also add – posting in an existing topic actually prevents us from being able to track issues by topic.So, as a general rule of thumb, ask yourself:
Are you using the same version of WordPress?
On the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme & configurations as the original poster?
If the answer is “No”, (and 99% of the time, it is) then your problem – despite any similarity in symptoms – is likely to be completely different. So please help us to help you and post a new topic when we ask you to.

but …
I follow a lot of different forums (fora?) on different sites. I am trying to glean info. A long thread covering a problem of interest to me, even if it contains a number of distracting rabbits, is more likely to provide me with what I need to know than a dozen shorter and disconnected postings. Especially since the titles to the postings will all be different, even if the issue is the same.
Now, if there were a way to tie these threads together (assign an official name to a certain failure and tag threads that way?) it might be useful but I suspect the moderators have plenty to do.
But my presumption is that the fora exist to help the folks who come here looking for answers, so it ought to offer the most efficient form of help for the reader.

I realize there must be thousands of people who have upgraded without problem and they don’t write in here but … the ones who are having trouble are certainly discouraging me from upgrading. Anyone have an idea how long it will be before 3.5.1 comes out?

Yes some users have had issues upgrading as is with every version. If you have concerns I would suggest making a backup of your database along with your wp-content directory and wp-config.php file. This way if you have problems you can simply wipe the directory and do a fresh reinstall 3.4.2.
Before upgrading check out the 3.5 Master List and make sure your not using any of the plugins or themes that could cause problems.
Before you do the update disable all your plugins and switch to the default theme. This is really the sure fire way to make sure you don’t get any Fatal errors from an improperly coded theme or plugin.
Once you upgrade then re enable your plugins and switch back to your theme. Also to note that all of the problems users are having with the new media uploader are caused by themes or plugins that load old versions of jQuery or improperly enqueue javascript.

lesson of the day is – dont update right away unless its an urgent security update known to fix a security flaw that many are having.
Most updates can cause problems and i normally do not update unless required, or unless I have made sure everything is backed up and ready to be restored if something goes wrong.
