    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Before you go find another plugin, I’d like to take a look at this.
Maybe it is an easy fix or just some small incompatibility with another plugin. Or if this is something serious, this would greatly help in fixing things.

Could you maybe provide a link to a page with a table that breaks for you in IE8? That would be awesome!
And what does “break” mean? Does something not work? Do you get error messages?

    Thanks!
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

It literally starts to load the site and then freezes/crashes IE8. It doesn’t even get past loading the header before it crashes. It looked to me like a jquery conflict or something, but that’s not my area of expertise. I’m not running that many other plugins on the site and it was definitely switching yours off that resolved the crash problem. When I saw that you had updated the description for the older plugin to say that people should use TablePress, I thought that might be why, but it did it too.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

    thanks for that description.

This indeed sounds like a problem with the JS…
However, I do not experience such issues on my test sites, and I haven’t received such reports from other users…

Another reason might be the size of your table. Can you give me an estimate of how many rows and columns the table has? For large tables, the JS needs longer to process, so that this might be the reason.

And is there any chance that you could reactivate the plugin and maybe create a test page, so that I can experience the problem myself, and maybe run some tests? I’d really appreciate it, as that can greatly help in improving the plugin.

    Thanks!
    Tobias

This is my test site, but will only be up temporarily: http://envecreative.com/shamass. I’ve deactivated all plugins but TablePress for you. This is the only real table:

There is a weird bug going on with the sidebar nav too, so use the Sitemap link from the footer if you want to look around.

    Hi,

thanks for the link to the test site! I really appreciate it!

This is indeed strange. The site shows up just fine in Google Chrome and Firefox, both without any errors being reported in the Console. But yes, in IE8, it won’t even load and the browser crashes.

I have no idea why this happens, and I can only imagine it to be a JS issue of some sort.
However, this shouldn’t be much of a problem for your table: You have unchecked the individual features, like sorting, search, and pagination, anyway, so we should be able to get this to work by simply deactivating the usage of the JS library for the table entirely. To do that, please uncheck the “Use DataTables library” in the “Features of the DataTables JavaScript library” on the “Edit” screen of the table.
After that, the page should hopefully be loading in IE8, as TablePress then does not load any JavaScript into the page. If the problem persists, the reason for the issue must be something else.
So, could you please try turning of the JS library with these instructions?

    Thanks!

Hi Tobias! Thank you so much for your amazing plugin.

I just wanted to let you know I am having the same exact problem, even with JS disabled as you indicated within each table.

    Any other ideas?

    Thank you! – Scott

Could you please post a link to the page with the table, so that I can take a direct look at this on your site? Thanks!

    Hi,

just for everybody following this thread: I worked on this directly with Scott, and we fixed it by installing the TablePress Extension for IE 7 that is mentioned in https://tablepress.org/release-announcement-tablepress-0-9-rc/

    Regards,
