I have used dynamic widgets successfully for a number of months but recently noticed a problem that I cannot seem to fix. My site is showing the archives and meta widgets on every page that does not have any widgets selected on it. Neither of these widgets, archives or meta, is selected to be shown on any page. The dashboard widgets section and the dynamic widgets setting page appear as they should.

I deactivated my other widgets except for the cache clearing one.

I have uninstalled dynamic widgets and reinstalled it, and then added widgets one at a time. It works at first but then starts showing the archives and meta widgets on any page that does not have a widget selected for it. I have tried this test a few times.

I couldn’t find anything about this by searching the support forum.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Your theme is probably using a ‘default widget policy’. This means when a sidebar is or becomes empty, the theme automatically shows (some) default widgets. Dynamic Widgets can’t do anything about that.

See also the FAQ “I want in Page X the sidebar becomes empty, but instead several widgets are shown in that sidebar. Am I doing something wrong?”
