• Hi, folks:

    People have been registering to post comments to my new blog (yay!), but I’ve got an appalling problem: the emails are coming from myusername@box160.myhost.com, so they’re landing in their junk/spam/bulk folders. On my admin page, the correct email address is there, and just to be positive, I checked my MySQL datavase, and the correct email address is there, too. I phoned my host, thinking they’d jiggle something in my brain, either something I forgot to do, or else they’d tell me they hear this question all the time, and the answer is … but no such luck. They told me to ask WordPress. So here I am.

    Why aren’t the user registration emails going out from the correct email address (admin@myblogdomain.com)? What can I do to solve this? Since the domain is an add-on domain, people are seeing my user name … which is one I don’t want them to see. It’s unprofessional, and I’m dying over here.

    Thanks very much for any tips.

    I’ve solved the problem of the “From” field in the header being wrong, though WHY the problem exists, I have no idea. The file class-phpmailer.php in wp-includes had this on line 74:

    var $Sender = “”;

    Putting the email address in there solved his problem. The install went without a hitch, but I notice the file modification date on that file indicates that that file wasn’t touched during the install (none of the files in that directory was, for that matter), so I’m a little suspicious of what else might not be right. Other users haven’t experienced this problem? (I guess not, otherwise a lot of people would have jumped on this question with solutions!)

    So I’m off to go try to put some *content* into the confirmation messages so they’ll be less apt to land in spam folders!
