Hello everyone, I have currently disabled wp-cache as it is conflicting with my Popular contest plugin. However, I would still like to ask anyone to help verify if
1) my page loads really slowly, and
2) if this Pingdom service is an accurate indication of my page loading speed.

It’s not that bad, but your page did take maybe 10sec until everything was loaded. That’s including all the graphics — the majority of the page was displayed and readable within a few seconds.
WP-Cache does reduce loading speed, but whether it’s significant depends on where your bottleneck is. WP-Cache basically removes the database lookup time from the equation, but (at least from on your front page) what’s holding you up is all your images. The plugin can’t (somebody correct me if I’m wrong) cache those images that you’re linking to hosted on other servers, and I think that connecting to those other servers might be what’s slowing you down.
If you use Firefox, take a look at your front page and right click on it, then choose “Page info.” Go to the “media” tab and you’ll see what I mean.

I guess I will have to find some way to optimize my images so that they will load up faster, but at least I understand how wp-cache works now.

The first time I tried your page, it took a long time to load, probably at least 15 seconds. However, subsequent page loads (even when forcing the browser to refresh) took about 2-3 seconds. All page and category loads took about the same time. My own wordpress site takes about 1-2 seconds per page (no wp-cache plugin), but I have no idea how long your site took without the plugin.
paQman, your page did not load on my Firefox at all, and I have a fairly fast connection here in Japan I think.
Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I’m getting really frustrated. I had my hosting company refresh my database, and that seemed to help at first, but now it’s just plain annoying. I was going to say I just deactivated the plugin and have you try it again, but I can’t get to the site right now! Grrrr.
My blog has been really slow to load as well as of late as well as a friend of mine’s.
We have been blaming our webhosting for the problem, but have not been able to figure out what the cause of it is.

I am not using the wp-cache, but have tried optimizing the database. It is definitely something with accessing the database causing the slow down, but I don’t know enough to know exactly what is doing it.
Yeah, I was blaming my webhost as well. They told me to optimize my database. I’m in the process of doing that right now. But can that really be the cause of an EXTREMELY slow loading page, or one that doesn’t load at all? I guess I’ll find out.

Globat.com They’re actually really great, I’ve been with them for a number of years, and I host like 4 sites on them. But this has just gotten really frustrating. Actually, I just optimized the database, and it seemed to do the trick. Try it again:

Only thing is, I had my other site that takes forever and the optimizing didn’t fix it. Actually, the site comes up fine, but when you try to log in, it takes forever.
BTW, what exactly does optimizing the database do?
I also host with globat.com and I am having the same long-loading problem. My blog is running wp 2.2 and takes up to 16sec sometimes to load. I asked globat to update to the latest wp version however they wrote back saying they feel no need to do so. Some of my other friends with the latest versions of wp are under a second or two of loading. I am currently blaming globat.
Man, it’s driving me nuts. So you’re saying you have other friends running on globat and they’re loading fast? Or they’re not with globat? Also, you said you’re running wp 2.2, but you asked globat to update to the latest wp? What do you mean? Isn’t 2.2 the latest version? And is globat managing your blog? Just curious. I’m really getting tired of it. I love globat, and have loved them for a really long time, but with my sites all switching to wordpress now, this is becoming a really big problem.
I have friends who have wp 2.2 and do not host with globat and their blogs take anywhere from one second up to 5 seconds to connect and load. I asked globat to upgrade their one-click blog install wp because it’s an old version and doesn’t support a lot of the latest plug-ins that I would like to use…they said no. One of my friends who does host with globat has this older version of wp and it does load faster than mine (wp 2.2). I manually installed wp2.2 files because i didn’t want to use their older version. My wp data base is on my globat account. I think what the problem may be is that globat uses different servers for different functions (ie: storage server, database server, email server) none are on the same server. I had globat reset the db server i’m on and it worked good for a day, then back to long load times. I recently set up a globat account for my sister and started building a small wp2.2 business site for her and it takes up to 17 seconds to load pages sometimes that are purely text. I’ve been a globat customer for like 4 months and everything else is cool but wp. I am curious how cms driven sites hosted with globat perform? I’d say talk to globat and if there’s no resolution…find a different host because the wait will drive people away and just get worse.
Yeah, I’ve been a customer for a few years, and they’ve always been great. It’s only been since I switched over to using wordpress stuff. I’ve got a friend who has space with BlueHost. I think I’m going to ask him if I can borrow some space to test out some wordpress sites for a bit, and see how it goes. If it works well, I may have to make the switch.
