Followed the instructions in doing an upgrade from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and when I try to run the upgrade.php I get the following message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function load_default_textdomain() in wp-settings.php on line 239
I have no idea how to resolve this since I have no idea how php works and just uses WP because it seemed so easy to use :(
Please help - what was supposed to be an easy upgrade has turned into a small-scale nightmare

I'm having the same problem. I followed the steps and uploaded the 2.2.1 files and when I go to the upgrade.php page I get:
Warning: main(/home/sangrial/public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/sangrial/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 100
Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '/home/sangrial/public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/sangrial/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 100
I have no idea what to do at this point. Seems like every time I upgrade it is some new nightmare because I am not very tech-savvy.
