Good to use the search feature, many people have asked about this before. Unfortunately, since the last time I checked, there’s no way to do this, which is what prevents me from bringing over some of my other journal stuff into my WordPress (and lemme tell you, I HATE LiveJournal as it is, I’d love for WordPress to be able to implement this feature).
I have had success hiding categories as well as entire pages. I use a combination of these two plugins to create custom user levels and make private posts and pages available only to those users with levels equal to the post level of the private content.

The only downside is, that although all private posts are visible when logged in as admin, the private page or category only becomes visible if you log in as a user with a level equal to the post level of the page or category you marked as private. (I hope that made sense).
It worked for me after a little experimentation. It might be helpful or spark an idea for you as well.
I must correct myself… the private category will not show under the “Categories” menu when a user with private permissions logs in, however it will appear in the archives and private content will be available to authorized users. I’m still trying to find a way to work around that little annoyance.

was hoping that you could get ahold of me…i’ve seen you drop some advice in a few feeds that i’ve been reading, but i need a little more information from you.
i am on WP 2.3.2 and am trying to get users associated with categories…ie, i want a client (ACME) to login and based on their permissions, go to the category they are associated with (ACME). in the category ACME will be all of their client work.
I would like all of my clients to have separate logins that all equate to a private category on my site.
i don’t think this should be very hard…
at any rate, i’ve heard clayton talk about roll manager and now disclose-discreet and it seems like you’re maybe achieving the results i’m looking for. unfortunately i have no idea how-to “force” the D-D plugin. can you please advise on how to do this. could you also advise if i’m even thinking about this correctly.
i am a graphic designer and am looking for an engine to display proofs, etc to my clients in a secure, easily updateable and comment ready environment and the secure category oriented login is the only piece i’m missing right now.
any help would be great.

update…finally figured out how to “force” WP so that the DS plugin worked and it solved all my problems to a T.
if anyone ever get here and is trying to figure out how to “force” the plugin, go to the ‘options’ menu and then there will be a sub-nav for D-S…i couldn’t find it for the life of me…once i did, everything is great.
