• I am building the new version of a pretty big website, and I imported quite a bunch of content. For me, being able to categorize medias is a key feature. Being able to do so in such an easy way is great! ^_^

    (I messed for a while with Pods CTs then I found this plugin just a moment before throwing the PC out of the window lol.)

    I can’t understand why it isn’t a core feature. Such an improvement of Media in 3.5 could -should- include that too.

    The 5th star’s to encourage you, otherwise this would be a 4-stars review.
    Why?
    Because it would be really perfect just if the features of the “Assistant” tab (created in Media menu) would be implemented in the core “all media” page.

    You know, it’s not a big problem for a decently savvy user, but in my company I’m the only one, and I bet that in many other small companies the situation is the same. 😉

    Thanks for using the plugin and for taking the time to write this review. Your comment, “I can’t understand why it isn’t a core feature”, is why I created this plugin – to make attachments a first-class “custom post type”. To be fair, attachments have been around a long time and there is a lot of code for handling them scattered through WordPress. Version 3.5 made great improvements, like the new Edit Media screen with taxonomy support (which replaced the plugin’s Edit Single Item screen). Still, the lack of quick edit and bulk edit features in the core Media/Library screen is a puzzle. I want to make sure I understand your suggestion:

    Because it would be really perfect just if the features of the “Assistant” tab (created in Media menu) would be implemented in the core “all media” page.

    When you say “core ‘all media’ page”, do you mean the Library submenu under the Media section of the admin screens? That, of course, is what I modeled the plugin’s Media/Assistant screen after.

    I haven’t looked into using filters and actions to integrate the extra MLA features with the existing WordPress screen. It would be easy to completely replace the standard Media/Library screen with the Media/Assistant screen. I could add a Settings option to do that if it seems less confusing.

    Thanks again for the feedback and for using the plugin.

    No need to thank me for using the result of your good work.
    Thanks to you instead. 🙂

    I think you got my suggestion anyway.
    Please be patient with me not using the exact terms…
    English is not my language AND I’m relatively new to WP. 😉

    BTW, it’s obvious that you modeled the “Assistant” screen on the “Library” screen, and you did a good work on that.

    But there are two main good reasons to integrate the two (rather than replace the “Library”):

    1. It may result confusing for those who are not used to happily mess and explore with software options. For example, I had a hard enough time explaining my colleague how to use the core WP backend… when I had to explain her that, basically, now Media has two “Library” screens, she looked confused. I know she didn’t get it 100%. She’s just repeating my instructions like a robot. I know it may sound like a silly complain, but in a non-internet-related small Company, it’s not unusual (in my experience) that people can barely turn the PC on and read emails lol.
      So this suggestion is not strictly for my use, but for the general success of your plugin. The easier, the better. 😉
    2. There are several plugins that improve all Library screens (for Pages, Media, Posts, CPT…) populating them with more info than default. And obviously you can’t build that screen to contain every possible thing. Integrating Media Library with your Media Assistant would allow to have everything on the same screen.

    All these are simply my opinions anyway.
    And please note that they’re mostly cosmetic suggestions.

    So I wouldn’t suggest to concentrate too much on this.
    Just remember my words when you’ll have some spare time to spend on minor improvements. 🙂

    Thanks again, keep on with the good work!

    Hello, this is just to let you know that, apparently, after the last update there is a compatibility issue with the useful “Shortcode Reference Plugin“.

    In the shortcode reference panel, I got this message:

    ——-
    Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'ReflectionException' with message 'Function MLAShortcodes::mla_attachment_list_shortcode() does not exist' in /home/USER/public_html/FOLDER/wp-content/plugins/shortcode-reference/lib/ShortcodeReference.php:63 Stack trace: #0 /home/USER/public_html/FOLDER/wp-content/plugins/shortcode-reference/lib/ShortcodeReference.php(63): ReflectionFunction->__construct('MLAShortcodes::...') #1 /home/USER/public_html/FOLDER/wp-content/plugins/shortcode-reference/lib/ShortcodeReferenceService.php(55): ShortcodeReference->__construct('mla_attachment_...') #2 /home/USER/public_html/FOLDER/wp-content/plugins/shortcode-reference/lib/ShortcodeReferenceService.php(22): ShortcodeReferenceService::fillList() #3 /home/USER/public_html/FOLDER/wp-content/plugins/shortcode-reference/lib/ShortcodeReferenceUIManager.php(32): ShortcodeReferenceService::getList() #4 [internal function]: ShortcodeReferenceUIManager->showReferencePanel(Object(WP_Post), Array) #5 /home/USER/public_html/FOLDER/w in /home/USER/public_html/FOLDER/wp-content/plugins/shortcode-reference/lib/ShortcodeReference.php on line 63

    What’s more, WYSIWYG editors didn’t show… just plain “text” editor.

    I’m quite sure the problem is between your plugin and Shortcode Reference, ’cause when I disabled that, everything ran smooth.
    I hope this info is useful. I love both plugins and I would like to be able to use both. 🙂

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for this report. The issue you’re having has already been reported as a problem in the Shortcode Reference plugin:

    Scope Resolution Operator (::)

    I have added a comment there referencing your report and am awaiting a response from the author. There’s nothing I can do in Media Library Assistant to resolve this.

    I just had another look at the Shortcode Reference plugin page. There have been no updates or responses to Support Forum topics for six months. I’m not sure the author is still maintaining or supporting it.
