• Hello!
I am new to wordpress. The Twenty Eleven theme came with my wp install. Before I read the tutorial, I stupidly started customizing and ran into trouble.(got confused with static front page vs regular page vs post.) I messed it up and deleted everything I had done thinking I could start over. But I can’t seem to fix it, so I want to do a fresh install of the theme.

I tried to delete the theme and then reinstall it. But it doesn’t give me a fresh version. It is continuing to show my messed up version.

How can I get a fresh version of the theme? I searched the forum but couldn’t find any instructions.

    Thanks for your help!

  • It will be easier to help if you can tell that did you make changes to theme files or were just playing with the options in the admin.

For getting a fresh theme just look for the same theme in http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

Then download the theme and install. May be this should work.

I was just playing with options in the admin.

Since I posted my question, I restored all the pages that I had deleted so that I could at least see something again.

Problems I’m having: 1)I can’t figure out how to make static pages that do NOT have the comments form. I especially don’t want it on the home page. 2) Can’t figure out how to remove the “edit page” button that appears on the front end. I don’t want anyone editing anything… I want to edit only through the admin back end.

When you say “download the theme and install,” I’m not sure what you mean?
Could you please give me steps how to do this? I know I would download and save the files to my local hard drive, but then where/how do I install them?

    Thanks for your help!

    1. Edit the home page and uncheck “Allow comments” in the Discussion pane. If you do not see this pane, click Screen Options at the very top of the page and check “Discussion”.

    2. The link is only displayed to logged in users with the necessary editing privileges. Even then, the link just takes you straight to the relevant editing page in the WP back end.

    Ahh…. thank you!

Things are starting to look better… I may not have to do a new install afterall!

    thank you much!
