Great Plugin, thanks!
It would be really neat if it were possible to run two seperate versons of this plugin.
Example:
1) For use on a page showing just the latest (many) number of comments and showing one or two lines of comment text.
2) For use in the sidebar, only showing the lates 10 comments with date comment author post name

What plugin are you referring to? And every plugin for inserting something to your pages/etc has its functions by which you call the latest comments or whatever. What keeps you from embedding that call twice?
If you need php to work in your sidebar, you should take a look at Samsarin PHP Widget. Its similar to the wordpress text widget, but allows php as "text"-content.
