I have BPS installed on a couple of blogs and I love it, but I’ve run into an issue with my latest intall. I’m getting these messages, eventhough I have completed all the steps (twice now). Any ideas?

BPS Alert! An htaccess file was NOT found in your root folder.
BPS Alert! An htaccess file was NOT found in your wp-admin folder.

When you use the AutoMagic buttons and activate BulletProof Modes do you see any errors?

Are the root and wp-admin .htaccess files really created?

Please post this information below about your website. You will find this information on the BPS System Info page.

    No, I’m getting this:

Success! Your Default Mode Master htaccess file was created successfully!
CAUTION: Default Mode should only be activated for testing or troubleshooting purposes. Default Mode does not protect your website with any security protection.
To activate Default Mode select the Default Mode radio button and click Activate to put your website in Default Mode.

Is there harm in pressing the buttons multiple times. I’ve allready pressed them 3 times, I think. I just tried it again. Creating the files, then activating them. Weird huh?

Not sure what those details are. But I’ve got 3 other websites hosted with the same guy, without issues. He’s actually a friend of mine, he takes care of all the hosting stuff for me. I’d have to ask him.

When you click the create secure.htaccess file AutoMagic button do you also see success messages and when you activate root folder and wp-admin folder BulletProof Modes do you see success and not error messages as well?

And no, clicking buttons again just processes/executes whatever function/form processing code that is associated with whatever form button you are clicking. You are just duplicating your exact form actions.

Yes, both actions (or well, all 4 actions, really) generate success messages.

Ok then take a look at the root .htaccess file by going to the BPS Edit/Upload/Download tab page. Click on the “Your Current htaccess File” tab and verify that an .htaccess file really exists and that it is really a BPS .htaccess file. You can compare the “secure.htaccess” file to the root .htaccess file by clicking on the relevant tabs.

Some Hosts (only a few out of 1,000’s Worldwide) will do things like replace the BPS .htaccess files automatically with the Host’s .htaccess files or delete them entirely or crash your website because you are not using one of their .htaccess files.
