Can you just re-download & upload the theme again?

Yea probably but won’t I lose all my content? I created an entire bio, custom widgets, picture galleries, it took alot of time, and I don’t want to upload the theme again then have to start over.

You won’t lose your content because you made changes in a Child Theme; an external directory that inherits the functionality of your theme, rather than changing the theme’s files.

Oh ok I’ll try re-uploading the responsive theme now and see if it works, thanks.

John, you shouldn’t lose the content as it is stored in the database. If you are worried about losing that info, you could always backup your database first. Most hosting companies provide a way to do so in their control panel.

You could also navigate to Tools>Export from the Dashboard and export an xml file of your website.

Did you recently upgrade to WP 3.5? There could be an issue with the Responsive Theme and WP 3.5.

I don’t know how to re-upload the same theme, I went to Dashboard>Appearances>Themes and when I typed in Responsive it said already installed. Also yes I always update, I thought it was a good thing, but I’ve been having a problem uploading files since 2 updates ago, it only shows pictures in my media files when I click “View”

John, you could re-upload using FTP. Manually download the theme from http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/responsive. Once you have done that, upload it using FTP to wp-content>themes.

If you are not sure how to use FTP for your hosting, consult their documentation.

Ok I clicked on that link I download the zip folder then tried to upload the zip folder and it said…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the theme…

    Destination folder already exists. /home/johnking/public_html/wp-content/themes/responsive/

    Theme install failed.

John. Do you have FTP access? That’s going to be your best option here.

    Thread Starter Actorjohnking

    (@actorjohnking)

I don’t know what FTP access means, I’m new to this whole thing, my hosting is Hostgator.

FileZilla is a great free FTP client.

    Ok I’ll try thanks

Ok I did everything I can and even did a live chat with some from Hostgator. And all we been able to discover is that it’s the responsive theme that has all the problems. I activated another theme, then uploaded my PDF file and it was viewable and everything was working fine, then I left it that way and then activated the responsive them again and it didn’t work, I got the same error message as before. I even deleted the responsive theme off my wordpress, then I re-uploaded it then activated it and nothing worked. So my only options now is to contact the theme’s owner or change my theme. Which I don’t wanna do because I like the responsive theme. Smh I thought creating a website on WordPress was suppose to be simple.

I would post a topic on this in Responsive theme’s forums http://themeid.com/forum/
