subset of gallery

Is there any way of just showing a subset of a gallery. Either by using tags or image numbers? I constantly want to create galleries on the fly with shortcodes. I end up just stringing some singlepics together but they don’t look nearly as nice as scrollgallery. See a page where I have both singlepic and scrollgallery implemented. It doesn’t look good together.

I also would like to be able to set it so that when you click on the larger image it will go to an even larger blow up like singlepic does instead of onto the next image.
