• Hello,

This plugin *looks* like it may be exactly what I need for our school district’s network of sites.

Our main site is, for example, http://www.example.org/
I’d planned on creating a separate site (with this plugin) at people.example.org and have staff pages at, for example, people.example.org/jdoe/

A couple of questions, which aren’t exactly related to the plugin, but this plugin raises the questions.

Is there a plugin to provide a global search across the multiple networks?
The closest I’ve found is multisite-global-search, which doesn’t do this.

Additionally, on staff pages on the secondary network (people.), I’d like to use the “main” menu from the /other/ main network site. Is this feasible?

Any insight is much appreciated, and thanks for creating this plugin!
    Thanks!

    Hi hewbert –

I don’t know of any plugin that will perform a search across multiple networks. It’s frustrating because it takes work to restrict a search to a single network.

For example, in the multisite-global-search plugin you linked, multiple network searching could be enabled by removing the site_id parameter from the SQL queries in inc/views.php

As for menus, I don’t think you can share them between sites. But any technique that will allow one site to use a menu from another will work regardless of in which network(s) those sites sit. Here’s a technique I found from a quick search: http://ostedesign.com/wordpress-multisite-global-navigation-menu-synchronization

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
