• It started the day before Christmas 2012, just a few days ago. I get replies – comments as to say – to my post, as many as about two hundreds now, and keep coming. Messages contain fragments of what seem to be copied from discussions from some another blogs, added with a number of spelling mistakes that look like side effect of a automatic routine that inserts symbols and characters here ant there, plus www addresses, links.

I just cancel them but this is becoming a nuisance. Is it only me or this is happening widely to other bloggers ? Is there anything that I can do to stop that ?

  • It’s common spam, and it happens to all of us.

Do you run any plugins to combat spam?

I wrote an article a couple of weeks ago about spam basics.

You can give it a read, but my basic suggestions are to activate akismet, and install cookies for comments plugin.

That will kill most of the spam you get

@rev. Voodoo is right, Akismet is the way to go.
I found too on my blog that old posts were the worse, so I closed comments about a month. That helped a lot.

Rev & Christine, thanks a lot both. I installed Akismet, deactivated a plugin that would allow readers to email to me and that’s it.
Best to you guys and thank you again.

Should be quite helpful, if you find you have too much spam in your queue to deal with, try the cookies for comments plugin as well. It’s very effective at zapping spambots. I didn’t need it at first, but after a while found it very helpful!
