I just registered a blog, and did the domain mapping thingie that I'm waiting to propagate. The template has lots of room for alterations, and I get it that there's a widget deal to alter the template.

So I go to the site that offers widgets, and there's a page of code that I have no idea what to do with. The assumption is that you're code savvy, but I know NOTHING! How do I use this code? How do I download the page to insert the php? I want to insert Adsense tables and some tables for button ads. They come off like it's all so cool and easy, but there's very little support for newbies trying to alter a template.

There is fragmented info all over the place and I don't know where to begin. Am I supposed to download the page to insert the code in my html editor?

Am I supposed to use CSS, php or html? Not that I know the difference.

Find the widget you want and order up the code. Just copy the widget code wholesale. Go to the widgets management page under "Presentation" in WP 2.2. Plop the code into a box labeled "Text." And save. See what happens.

The whole idea of pre-fab widgets and the widget management page is that you don't have to know any code.

Well, it's pretty obvious I will have to look for somebody to do this and pay them because any kind of alteration is clearly for experts.

If you know how to copy and paste, you can do this.

Or you could switch to wordpress.com or typepad. Typepad is widget wonderland for people who aren't blog-savvy.

Sometimes you don't even have to copy and paste, just click a box. :-)

Yeah, that's what I do when my car breaks down - rely on experts :)
(why would the web be different?)

    No Sidebars Defined

It tells me I have to use this php code in my page before I can use the widgets. Back to square one.

It means you are using a theme that is not widget ready.

A friend has Zomplog working, so I think I will go with that using my own server and cancel the domain mapping. Thanks a lot for the answers.
