Support » Plugin: Store Locator Plus® for WordPress » State drop down directs IN to India and LA to Los Angeles

  • I am having an issue where the search by state drop down is returning incorrect locations. For example, when I choose IN (Indiana) the map returns the marker in the middle of India. When I choose LA (Louisiana), I get Los Angeles, CA.

    I looked through the files for a way to update these, but could not find it and figured it best to post here to see if there is an easy fix.

    Thanks for your help!

    @energybill – Yes, I’m aware of that.

    Those pulldown menus are un-intelligent. When you pick a state like “LA” it simply types that in the address box as “LA”. Unfortunately that is sent to Google Maps and they decided when people type “LA” they mean “Los Angeles” not “Louisiana”.

    I’m working on a patch for that but I need to get 3.8.X stable first as there are hooks and filters I need to create the features necessary in the Enhanced Search add-on to do things like “Use explicit state names” on the state pulldown.

    BTW, the other option is to type out state names instead of short names when entering location data. Type out “Indiana” instead of “IN” and it will work. A pain and non-standard so I’m hoping to get an Enhanced Search update out to accommodate this without “long hand” state names.
