• I became familiar using wordpress.COM, and realized that I was barking up the wrong tree. I’m now setting up my hosting, and downloading the wordpress software from this site to use to setup my site.

I plan to “register”, I believe it’s called, my domain name (like, “Ogodric’sStuff.com”). On wordpress.COM, there was a link to “buy/register” the domain, on their site. My question is, if I’m hosting it on hostgator, and using the wordpress software from wordpress.ORG, where and how do I register my domain name? Or is that something I should go back to the wordpress.COM setup if I need to do?

Thank you in advance, any and all help is greatly appreciated! Happy Holidays! 🙂

  • You can register your Domain Name with any Domain Registrar or Web Hosting Service that offers it. Google Domain registration for more information.
Ipage is a good place to start, they usually have good promotions and their staff is very helpful.
If you decide to go with them, tell them the good people at lookupyoursite.com sent you and they might hopefully give me some credit for that. Good luck.

but who..”owns” these? like, are you saying that if different places can register the same thing? And would offer different prices?

It’s kind of like buying insurance. What matters at the end of the day is getting your service. You just want someone who can provide the service you need effectively at an affordable cost to you.
iPage was recommended to me, they have a nice friendly support staff and great prices. You can try them out and like I said mention Lookupyoursite.com so I can get a little credit. Also, go to Youtube, type in web domains and you will get some good clips.
You will own the Domain name and they ‘rent’ you a share/storage unit for you to operate from as long as you pay.
    Hope it helps.
