• This has been annoying me since I started using wordpress. The searchfunction for plugins is in fact useless. There is no way to filter your search. Let’s say I want to search for a widget plugin that lists Tweets from my Twitter account. If I search for Twitter, a lot of plugins pop-up, but a lot of the plugins do not have widgets, forcing me to manually go through the entire search result by hand to find what I am looking for. Also, if I want to sort my results after update date, rating or whatever, there is no such function.

In the end, the search is extremely tedious, and I always end up Googling for hours to find the right plugin. And when I find it, it is usually outdated.

Please, create an advanced search function for plugins with filters and sorting. And while you are at it, do the same thing for themes.

  • This is not an issue with WordPress per se but more of an ongoing problem with the Plugin & Theme Repositories. You can narrow down your theme search using the tag filter but, given the current range of tags for plugins, I don’t see a similar system being introduced for plugins any time soon.

Not an issue? Then tell me how to find the highest rated & latest updated twitter widget plugin. Can you? Or do those filter functions not exist?

What do you mean by ongoing? This has been the case since WordPress started.

And it’s still a problem. There really is nothing else I can add at this point.

LOL. That’s why I posted this. So, is anyone working on a fix?

Work on the wordpress.org site generally is ongoing & has been for some time. But I don’t know of any plans to re-organise the Plugin Repository in the near future. As I understand it, there are other areas that have a higher priority.

It’s not only the site, the same (lack of) function is within WordPress, and that does perhaps make it more urgent 🙂

There is no functionality lacking within WordPress itself. It just links to the Repos. If the functionality/architecture isn’t in place within those Repos, then there’s nothing WP itself can do about it. If they ever are re-organised, I’m sure WordPress will be updated to reflect that.

    Spennis –

I think what you are talking about might be what I’ve been searching for so wanted to clarify in case I’m wasting my time!! Any chance you’d mind looking at the search feature on the left hand side of this website:

Is there any way I can add something like this to my wordpress site? I have been searching the forums and plugins for HOURS!!

    Thanks!

@keonline10, I’m talking about the lack of a proper search filter for the WordPress plugins database (to find plugins for WordPress).
