Support » Fixing WordPress » WYSIWYG Editor Broken after .htaccess changed

  • Hi there,
I downloaded 2.2, fiddled around with it, made a post using the WYSIWYG editor. Then I started to change the .htaccess file. I used a txt pad and made my changes to the file, saved it, and copied and pasted it in. The changes worked GREAT but my theme lost all of the formatting and images.

I removed WordPress, installed again, wrote a new WYSIWYG post in the editor while waiting for some advice, and tried the .htaccess changes again with some help from the BlueHost forum. Same thing happened. Then, I realized that my other themes were ok so I redownloaded my theme and everything is working perfectly again.

I spent all last night fixing up little parts of my theme and working on headers, etc, but when I woke up this morning I went to make a post and my editor is broken.

I’m pretty sure that the last time I used the editor was before the .htaccess changes. But I can’t image why those changes would affect the editor when everything else seems fine.

Any advice on how to fix the editor?

When I go to ‘write a post’ the screen loads and then the first line of the editor is present but the ‘Strikethrough’ icon is red x’d out, but the other helpful icons are still there.

You can’t ‘click’ in the editor box as there is no box.

Also, I just noticed that I can’t seem to delete any categories (I have the Uncategoried, that I renamed, and Blogroll). There is no delete link. I also can’t delete any of the Blogroll links. They delete but when I refresh the page they reappear again. The blogroll links were from the theme I imported so I’m not sure if this still has to do with the theme or not.

Any advice? I’m a newbie… 🙂 But I’m a quick study! I didn’t find this problem while searching past threads.

After continuing to search for answers, I opened up Firefox and tested it. The editor does work in Firefox.

I use IE6 though and prefer it, currently. So I still need a way to fix it in IE.

    Thanks!

Well, I had BlueHost clear out my site so I could start over again.

I downloaded WP2.2 through Fantastico and I still can’t use the Rich Text Editor. I can turn it off in my Profile and write a post in IE6. I really would prefer to use the Rich Text Editor as it is there for dummies like me. 🙂 Also, the WP Plugins for the WYSIWYG seem to be for sale and I can’t pay for one.

Is there any advice on how to get my editor working in IE6, or see what errors I have? The page says ‘Done, with errors’.

When I click on the error button, it pops up a dialoge box and when I click for more details it says:

    Line: 176
    Char: 290
    Error: Access is Denied
    Code: 0
    URL: http:// mybigbearvacation .com/wp-admin/post-new.php

    Thanks!

I had been having this problem for a very long time and just tonight realized what was causing it for me.

When I originally started my blog, Options->Wordpress Address and Options->Blog Address were both configured as http://roguelystated.com

After a while, for reasons I now forget, I changed both to http://www.roguelystated.com. It wasn’t until now that I noticed I get the same error you describe above ONLY when I access my wp-admin through my old IE and Firefox bookmarks, which point to http://roguelystated.com/wp-admin and NOT to the newer http://WWW.roguelystated.com

I no longer get this error when I access wp-admin using the address as set in Options->Wordpress address and Options->Blog address.

    Hope this works for you.

davidbibo, I had the exact same problem and your solution cleared it right up, thank you! My address was https://site.com but wordpress has it logged as http://site.com so this error was coming out in ie6, but not the others. Once I changed it, problem gone. Thanks again!

    David,

Ahhhh thank you so much. I have been trying to fix this for the last 5 hours. Deleting cache, messing with Java even using an older system restore point!

Thank you sir you have made my night…

    Michael
