I just upgraded to 2.2 and now have some strange edit and code problems.

My name has been changed on some posts and author credits from René to RenA@
and there are some other strange codes like that added in other posts.
When I try to save anything, posts, user profile, etc., I get “Safari can’t open the page “http://blog.talesofkingtut.com/wp-admin/post.php” because it could not load any data from this location.”

Yet if I try to save it a couple of times, with the same results, the save seems to go thru and the edit shows up.

So I did try to add my plugins, and am now going back thru and deactivating them again. Darn!

I did use the fantastico panel to upgrade. I have not had any trouble with that before.
But there was that “Ghost in the machine”= the bad ‘kernel in the machine’ that was fixed two days ago by my host.

Is there something I can try? WordPress was running seamlessly until all this trouble with my host started. I should have waited longer on the upgrade, but I had a messed up login page and didn’t.

    My blog is here

    René

  • Yep, there’s apparently a known-issue with Fantastico upgrading to 2.2, that has to do with CHARSET. Search this forum for the latest about that, I don’t know if it has been resolved yet.

    Good luck with your blog!

René, in your wp-config.php file, you should delete the two lines that have DB_CHARSET and DB_COLLATE.

    MichaelH,

I did change the two lines (commented them out) in that file, but that did not resolve the issue. Do I need to totally etrase them?

And the same save problem for any other changes, like user info, any edits, or saves.

Maybe I need to change some chmods?

All these upgrade instructions are very confusing. Erase files, keep files, empty database, back ups.

sorry if I use the fantastico loader, but I am too swamped by all these instructions that seem to be like a MAZE! and I didn’t have any problems with fantastico before.

Thanks for your courtesy and advise.

    René

And DGold, I’ve been noticing your problems and following them too. I hesitate to upgrade my other WordPress install if I’m going to have more problems with it.
    It’s operating fine in 2.1.2.

now cannot save or publish posts. probably more things wrong. My webhost absolutely refuses to acknowledge any problems on their servers that might contribute to the problems.

Yet it was their ‘ghost in the machine” that started all these problems.

Noticed on various sites, tracking ‘BUGs’, etc, that this version of WordPress 2.2 is full of problems.

Whey did they release it if that is so???

Somebody hates us users and wants to drive us insane!

Okay, Now, can edit and save posts, still have one issue, but that may also be resolved.

please see this discussion Dashboard Posts

if you are having the same problems.

the modifications to the .htaccess file resolved most of these issues.

i resolved my problems with 2.2 with help from the forums

although I’m still going one-by-one through my plugins and figuring out if they have upgrades or whether they need upgrades written

but overall i eventually solved my main issues with 2.2

    good luck, you’re getting there!
