Blank WordPress RSS feed: "XML Parsing Error: no element found" (18 posts)

I have just moved my podcast/blog from one web host (InteractiveOnline.net) to another (ANHosting.com), and I thought it had gone perfectly, until I checked the RSS feed, which now appears to be empty/broken (the website, http://www.bran.com.au seems to be fine).

I have tried changing back to the original theme, and disabling all plug-ins but the problem remains regardless.

When attempting to access the feed address, http://www.bran.com.au/podcast/?feed=rss2 (on Firefox), I get this message:

XML Parsing Error: no element found
    Location: http://www.bran.com.au/podcast/?feed=rss2
    Line Number 1, Column 1:
    ^

When attempting to access the feed address, http://www.bran.com.au/podcast/?feed=rss2 (on Internet Explorer 7), I get this message:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
    -----------------------------------------
XML document must have a top level element. Error processing resource 'http://www.bran.com.au/podcast/?feed=rss2'.

    Help.

You must've got it sorted out? Things appear ok at the moment.

I've had what sounds like the same kind of problem. Did you get it figured out because I've been unable to so far. I was looking for past answers before I posted a question.

I had this problem out of the blue also. I don't know what caused it - deactivating or backing out recent plugins did not fix the issue, and it seemingly occurred without any changes.
I tried a couple of things and found that these 2 are (still) broken:
    http://www.logon.ie/feed/
    http://www.logon.ie/?feed=rss2

    However
    http://www.logon.ie/?feed=rss
gives me a working feed - phew. Panic stations over for the moment, but I'd love to know what happened.

What the problem appears to be is an empty line getting inserted at the start of the xml file.

Unfortunately knowing what it is doesn't tell me why it happened out of the blue. I'll take a look and see if I can figure where this is getting introduced.

In the meanwhile, is anyone else experiencing this issue? Any known fix?

    Have a look through your wp-config.php, plugins and/or your theme's function.php files.

In all cases, there should be no spaces or blank lines before the opening <?php tag. Also in all cases there should be no spaces or blank lines after the final ?> as well.

Hello, I changed servers yesterday, and I am now experiencing this error also. I overwrited all the original wordpress files - which didnt solve it. I then disabled all plugins, and that didnt solve it.

The web address is www.360Sync.com ... any ideas how to fix this annoying RSS error?

4 months ago I left a reply on this thread - right above your question.

That reply is exactly how I would reply to your question. :-)

I know, I am pretty sure I checked those places... I will check again to be sure.

Wow, seems that the exact problem was an extra space at the end of the wp-config file. Thanks for the quick response [although I feel rather stupid that the answer was here all along]

I think I have the same issue but, my ignorance when it comes to PHP scripting is not good. What should the file look like?

Not sure what my RSS issue is? It's a fresh install.

I ran into this problem as well...very nasty issue to troubleshoot.

I did not find problems with the php files. However, after deactivating the plugs, I did found that if you run Wordpress 2.3.2 using Yahoo Services the Customizable Permalinks plug-in causes the problem. Deactivating the plug in resolved the issue

Yes! The problem were some spaces at the end of the functions.php file of my theme. I don't know how those got there however?!
    Thank you all!
