• Does anyone have a forum plugin that works with 2.2?

i have spent three weeks trying to get a forum onto my new blog.

XDForum: No option in admin to edit/add trheads/topics and the actual forum page claims it cant be displayed because that page has been deleted. “sorry the page you looking for have been deleted” couldnt get any help and when i register so i can ask for help in the forum, i never get an email with my password

WP-Forum: This one looked promising and well done, however, again with the no way of adding topics and threads. the instructions say that the options are in the ‘manage’ menu in the admin… but no dice. couldnt get any help and when i register so i can ask for help in the forum, i never get an email with my password

RS-Discuss: more of a discussion board than a forum 🙁 but everything worked fine. it is just missing the option to add threads. it just has topics that people can comment on

simple-forum: everything goes fine until i try to actually view my forum and see that nothing is their. i get the title and such, but no actual forum

So i am concidering using phpBB because i understand their are plugins for wordpress intigration. How good are these plugins? will they use the same users/members from my wordpress as members of phpBB?

  • Try bbpress (http://bbpress.org/). Made by the fine folks at WordPress. 🙂 You’re currently using it here.

any further insight here? i despise the bbpress software, its ugly as sin.

Well, display has to do with design, rather than functionality. You can always update the design to your heart’s content.

There are also: vBulletin and IPB forums, although those aren’t free.

i would recommend Simple Machines Forums. I am using it and it is free.

-> There is a pluggin out there but it didn’t work for me.

I still haven’t found any way of integrating wordpress and phpbb logins.

    In my opinion the painless solution is;

    * using phpbb with a “phpbb blog” if you can find any.

    * using wordpress with bbpress, xd or vanilla. However, these forums fall far behind phpbb.

I’m really considering to leave wordpress for phpbb3 and only stopped by the fact that I didn’t came across any good phpbb blog yet.

If this was me wanting to integrate logins between a blog and a forum, if integrated software (that I liked) did not exist, I’d find software I liked and then get someone to integrate the logins. I know it can be done.

For the long term bbpress is the best bet as integration & maintenance will be easier.

Otherwise, try vanilla http://getvanilla.com/ – it’s possible to integrate users

I’m getting SMF (www.simplemachines.org) forums integrated to a point that I could ALMOST call universally stable. I won’t claim it quite yet.

You can give it a try here:
