• Hi everyone,

I’d like to install a Question & Answer script on my site whereby all new questions get emailed to me directly and then I can email the answers straight back to the blog.

This makes moderation easy. Unfortunately with the ask-me plugin (the best alternative) admin has to login to the site to approve questions asked rather than approving the questions that you email a reply back to. Simple!

Perhaps an alternative would be to use a separate forum that would allow this functionality. I am on an email only blog in China’s outback, so this functionality is a necessity.

What are your thoughts on the plugin or perhaps any alternatives?

    RF

  • I just downloaded ask-me and will look at it. Have you posed your question to its author? There is a WP option to blog by email.

A forum would be an alternative with a question being set up as a discussion item but then you would have to register to comment on that item.

By the way, my nephew is teaching in Xiamen.

If it helps you jwurster, there’s a more modern version of the ask-me plugin here. It includes name, email and web url of asker instead of just the question as in the link above.

    See. http://www.angis-blog.de/2007/02/18/ask-me-plugin-fuer-wordpress-21/

You’ll also need the EXEC_PHP plugin here.

There is no way of automatically having the functionality automatically and i’m looking at alternatives now. Any suggestions anyone???

Would it possible to rework the script I wonder… [musing]

have a look at this too

    http://knowledgeconstructs.com/wordpress-plugins/faq-tastic/

i believe it does the email questions etc

When you ponder re-working someone’s script, I would ask the author first about what you want to do, to see if it is feasible.

Yeah, the FAQ-tastic plugin is great but it doesn’t have a feature to send notification to the site owner that an question has been asked. It does however send an email to the asker when the question has been answered.

If a mail can be sent to the asker then logically it will be easy to send to the site-owner. I’ve left messages on both Ange’s, Sarahs (ilovecode) and the knowledge construct sites and hope this can be worked out. I’ll also have a go anyway.

Nice to hear that your nephew is teaching in Xiamen. Hows he finding it?

@rideforever: This is his second year there and he really likes it a lot. I don’t know what his plans are after this year. His Mom just spent 3 weeks visiting him and had a great time. I hope to help her put together a photo journal of her trip.

Good stuff. Xiamen is meant to be nice, though I haven’t made it there yet myself
