add_post & add_category

    I am working on a pluign and want to add a list of categories. Is there an add_category function like add_post_meta that I can use? Same Q for add_post.

    I’m new at all this and am trying to piece it all together. I can add a category to the database with a query, but I can’t figure out what to do with the nicename.
