Support » Fixing WordPress » “e-marketing” causes major problems in output

  • I’m experiencing a major problem with word press, it’s causing problems when I type in “e-marketing” and use html formatting in my message.
    For example;
    What I typed into the editor;
    =============================

    e-marketing.
    This is my test message.
    oblique. italic.

    What I get in the Preview
    ===================

    <<<<-marketing.
    This is a test message.
    oblique. italic.

    Although the formatting works fine, it causes lots of “<<<<” in replace of e-marketing. Sometimes if I get rid of the “-” it gets rid of the whole paragraph, othertimes it puts more “<<<<“
    Why is this? How do I fix this? It is anticipated that my weblog would be concentrating on x-marketing and I need some urgent help on fixing this.
    Many thanks.

    I found it out now…
    It was caused by the following plug-in, which I have now de-activated;
    MarkDown 1.0b4 by John Gruber.

    Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown syntax allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML. This plugin enables Markdown for your posts and comments. Written by John Gruber in Perl, translated to PHP by Michel Fortin, and made a WP plugin by Matt. If you use this you should disable Textile 1 and 2 because the syntax conflicts.

    Its a shame that I have to de-activate this because its very important to me to have valid XHTML.
    Can somebody have a go at fixing the issue I raised today and post an updated or better version.
    Thanks.

    Markdown 1.0b4 is very outdated. When it runs on a server with PHP version less than 4.3 it shows this bug.
    You should try the latest version of PHP Markdown available from my web site: http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/
