It's not possible if you don't have access to a mysql client. You might be able to contact your host and have them give you access so that you can change it.

    well, that's not altogether true.

You *can* login as admin, and create a new user. Choose the username/password you want. Set the new user as "Administrator". Log out, log back in under the new user name. You should have all of the capabilities the "admin" name has. (If you don't, log out, log back in as admin and make sure the new name is set as "Administrator" - then log back in under the new name).

If everything's set, just delete the "admin" user. That's it. Admin gone, new login working.

If Landish means what I wanted to do, is that (s)he wants to change the login name to get to the dashboard. All WP pages have the login screen at the same place and all have "admin" as username, so a hacker does only have to guess the password. I (also) wanted to change the username and eventually managed to do this directly in the wp_users table on the control panel of my webhost. Pretty easy!

Oh btw, Jeremy I have installed the Hardening plugin. It is larger than WP itself! It can be helpfull for some things, but I think I prefer to have my WP separate from the control panel of my webhost.

    Using WordpressMU

I changed the "admin" account in mysql to "wp_admin" and I was able to log in, but the tab for "Site Admin" disappeared. I confirmed that the other administrator accounts don't have that tab either. I changed the account back to "admin" in mysql, relogged in, and the tab re-appears.

Only when the account is specifically called "admin" can I get that tab.

How can I change the admin account per the instructions in the Codex in Wordpress MU and still be able to access all the admin functionality?
