Yesterday I had a programmer upgrade my blog, install some plugins and do a couple of other things for me to revamp my blog(now version 2.1.3). Since then, I’ve gotten over 500 spam comments from different ip’s to hit my blog in 24 hours.

Thankfully, I have Akismet installed on my blog and it’s caught all of these spam comments before they got posted to my blog. Nonetheless, I’m still concerned that I’m getting this much spam – dozens of them by the minute sometimes.

Should I be concerned about this? Is there anything that I can do? Is there some sort of security hole that’s allowing this to happen on this big a scale?

    Your help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Summer

I also updated to 2.1.3 yesteday, but in the last 24 hours I did not notice any increase in spam comments. Only about 5-6, which is what I used to got per day.

There are several simple measures to take. I uploaded several video tutorials at http://www.youtube.com/vtcs a long time ago. But what works best is to patrol your website every 2 to 3 hours.
