I have my RSS feeds to show full posts which I am completely happy with.

However I would like to syndicate some content to third party sites by RSS. I want the content on this to be a summary/excerpt of the full post.

Does anyone know how to create a second RSS feed that will be a summary/excerpt.

If you’re not already using Feedburner, you could use their (free) service to transform your full feed to an excerpted feed.

Don’t use a feedburner plugin on your blog, just let subscribers still get the feed as usual. Give the feedburner processed URL to the ones that you want to have an excerpt.

    Great thanks that works 🙂

Just enter your RSS feed in feedburner and once it is created you can reset it to Excerpt/ summary under Optimize > Summary Burner.

A bit late, and the feedburner solution seems good, but for anyone else reading this, I have a WordPress plugin, called DualFeeds which lets you provide both a full post and summary feed to your users (so they can choose whichever suits them). Works for all feeds (including category feeds etc).
