Problem running install.php file (7 posts)

    Hey
I'm a newcommer to php scripts and to wordpress. I was using blogger.com to blog, and that's lousy, so I stumbled across wordpress and realized it was a quite excellent replacement.

However, when trying to install it, I failed miserably.

I'm with Surpasshosting.com, and I tried installing it in the root folder of my FTP. I'm on a shared server.

I did the 5-minutes installation as instructed on the readme file. I followed it to the word, and got stuck on step 5:

Open /wp-admin/install.php in your browser. This should setup the tables needed for your blog. If there is an error, double check your wp-config.php file, and try again. If it fails again, please go to the support forums with as much data as you can gather.

I got the following error message:

Warning: main(./upgrade-functions.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/slightly/public_html/wordpress2/wp-admin/install.php on line 9

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './upgrade-functions.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/slightly/public_html/wordpress2/wp-admin/install.php on line 9

Any idea what it means, what I've done wrong and how could I solve it?
I tried asking so many people in so many places for help, so far to no avail. I will really appreciate anyone who can shed some light on this.

Might try deleting and reuploading your wordpress files.

You didn't upload all of the Wordpress files. That error tells you that wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php is not there.

Double-check that you uploaded *everything* to the server.

I did double check, and tried uploading again. To no avail, I'm afraid.

Check the permissions on the files. They should probably all be at least 444.

They're 755 on the folder and 644 on the files.

    That will work.
