I’m teaching a class where my students are installing WordPress and customizing themes. To make this easier, I gave them a bare bones theme and they edited the CSS.

Before giving them the theme, I tested it out and installed and activated it on my own WordPress blog without a hitch.

But, when they went to upload it, on about half the sites the the WordPress admin panel showed the information from the stylesheet, but then wouldn’t load the css when trying to activate the theme.

So, they can activate the theme and the html/php work and show the content, but there’s no styling to it.

But then on my own server it worked fine. And a number of the students were also able to install the theme fine.

I’m trying to troubleshoot with them but it’s a short class with a lot of students. I’m currently looking into permissions on the theme folder and on the stylesheet.

Is there anything else that might help?

    Thanks!
    Daniel

If anyone else runs into this and doesn’t get the question answered, the issue was permissions on the theme folder. Somewhere in the process, the folder was changed to 700. Changing to 755 fixed it.
