Hey I have the same issue. I’m using a custom template and I’m trying to call in the Next Gen image by using wp_get_attachment_image_src( get_post_thumbnail_id($post->ID), ‘large’ );
I’m assuming WP doesn’t recognize the Next Gen images as attachements, so how do you recommend calling them in?
I think to work we would need to recode the whole thumbnail’s function from nextgen gallery…

In another thread someone is having a similar problem.
I’ve gotten the debugger out and I have a slight grasp on the issue.
Their is definitely something broken with NextGen featured images.
I can post more details later and maybe we can work out a fix.
Same problem here, when I check the links with firebug in FF, it shows the links blank, which is causing my featured images not to load.
Would greatly appreciate any help here.

Who is the nexten gen developper? Could you please inform us if it is possible to troubleshoot this problem, any clue on HOW we can manage or modify this plugin to get the featured image working ?

This has been an issue for quite a while, surprised it’s barely looked into s:

No idea. Ask the author, sorry couldn’t help much. I’ve been searching for this as well for the longest. Hope they fix it soon, and have it compatible with most or all configs.
We can’t provide an exact date for v2.0 as we are making some dramatic improvements to the plugin, and a lot of development is going into this major upgrade. We hope for the earlier part of the new year, possibly early summer. Until then, you can set a featured image through WP upload/insert. We apologize for the inconvenience, there will be a fix for this in the plugin, in v2.0.
