• I am moving my site http://www.menwhodine.com from wordpress.com to a hosted .org site. I created the XML export from the old site and imported into my newly created site. There are roughly 1200 photos on the old site and only 90 are transferring.

The XML file is quite small, 2.1mb so it cant contain all of the data from the old site. Is there another method of transfer of something else that I can do to fix this issue?

    Thank you!

  • Ask your web host to raise your php upload limit so you can import the whole XML in one pass, or try WordPress WXR File Splitter (RSS XML)

I have tried the WXR file splitter and most of my files return this message:

    Failed to import Media “DSC_0289”
    Failed to import Media “DSC_0291”
    Failed to import Media “DSC_0292”
    Failed to import Media “DSC_0297”
    Failed to import Media “DSC_0299”

There are probably 1100 of these “failed to import” messages.

All of the images are identical in file type and size as they were shot with the same camera.

    Any ideas?

They may not be getting imported if they don’t have a .jpg or .gif suffix. Look in your Media panel at wordpress.com and see if they have full file names.

You may also be hitting php timeout limits during the import at your new host. Ask them.

I had the php upload limits raised and still getting the same errors.

I happiness engineer ay wordpress.com confirmed that the XML file is fine and the issue is on the import side.

Is there something else we can do?

    Thanks you very much.

I just checked and they all do have the .jpg suffix.

I did split the import which did not hit the php timeout and still have the errors.

Ask your new host; must be something on their end regarding the bandwidth or memory limits improrting that many images.

OK, I will try that and let you know what they said and if they could resolve it.

Spent over 4 hours with engineering support at Godaddy and they could not resolve this issue. They are no limits on bandwidth, memory or anything else to prevent an upload.

We even split the XML file into 5 pieces and still got the same errors. They asked is there a way to get a copy of the database for a transfer?

I have to get this working as we are going to be scaling this site and rebuilding the theme.

    Thanks again for your help.

GoDaddy is well known as a crappy host. Try bluehost.com. They’ll give you a refund if for some reason you can’t import. They have a one click WP installer, so get an account, install a blank WP site, and try an import with the one 2.1 meg XML file.
