• I’ve been having speed issues with my WordPress installation. I’ve been on the same ISP (Dreamhost), same layout, etc. for quite a while. It just runs rather slowly now, taking on average about 6-10 seconds of computing time to load the main page at http://www.rapp.org

It’s been this way since 2.0 came out, I believe. My site displays the load times on the lower left corner of the sidebar. A typical page load: “Rendered 21 queries in 8.299 seconds.”

I’ve checked other WP sites running on the same server and they seem to be much faster. I’ve tried disabling all the plugins, hacks, etc. to no avail. It doesn’t seem to improve the speed at all. I’ve also tried changing themes, reducing the number of requests per page load, etc.

I was hopeful that the upgrade to 2.1 would fix the issue, but it hasn’t. Just to be clear, I’m referring to the speed of the blog, not the admin panel (I’ve seen other threads talking about that). Ironically, the admin panel seems to run a little faster than the actual weblog.

I’m open to any suggestions you might have…

drmike: I feel your pain. 🙂

Regarding the slowness, I even went so far as to get rid of the myhacks stuff just in case it was slowing things down, but did not notice any perceptible change.

Can a template slow down a site that noticeably? I searched for tips on that sort of thing but didn’t find anything useful.
