Unable to Expand Mac OS X 10.8 WP Installation Download 3.4.2

    Mavens,

    Just tried 3 different ways to download ‘wordpress-3.4.2.zip’ and two ways to unzip it onto an iMac OS X 10.8.2 w/Mountain Lion.

    Both Apple’s Archive Utility, and WinZip for Mac, fail to expand the downloaded file.

    Archive Utility reports: “Unable to expand ‘wordpress-3.4.2.zip’ into “Downloads”.
    (Error 1 – Operation not permitted.)

    WinZip for Mac reports: “Fatal error: End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a Zip file, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part Zip file.”

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

    You might have a bad download that might have gotten corrupted during the download process, possibly an incomplete zip file. I’d recommend redownloading the file and trying again. Is the download process completing every single time you’ve attempted the process?

    Should have mentioned…before posting request, above:

      Six downloads.
      Two computers.
      Two internet connections (1 Verizon Hotspot; the other Comcast High-Speed Internet).
      WinZip and Apple Archive.

    All…FAILwith the same diagnostics as expressed in original post.

    Has any Mac user (OS X 10.8.2) been able to successfully download and expand ‘wordpress-3.4.2.zip’?

    Yes. We have many, many, Mac users – including at least 1 forum moderator.

    Hi Plane Wryter,

    My apologies. My response didn’t really address your issue. To answer your question, I have been able to successfully download and decompress WordPress 3.4.2 both in the zip and tar.gz versions of the compressed package. I’ve read that you can also try Stuffit Expander, if you have access to it.

    Have you researched the Apple Support forums about general decompressing issues with Mountain Lion 10.8.2? This is one of the threads that I came across regarding the topic: Archive Utility Freezes When Trying to Unzip a Zip File. While it isn’t the exact issue, it also points to the same general problem and might help.

    *&&^^%$##$%^ Kaspersky for Mac!

    Regrets to all on this forum…I just figured it out: &&^^%$&*(*# Kaspersky for Mac was preventing Apple Archive (and WinZip) from expanding the .zip (and, I also tried the .tar).

    To Anyone Else Having this Problem: On a whim, I disabled and removed Kasperksy for Mac and…(you’ll be shocked! Shocked I tell you!) wordpress-3.4.2.zip — (wait for it…) unzipped perfectly. I now have a shiny, new–AND WORKING–MAMP Pro-based instance of WordPress 3.4.2 running on my iMac with 10.8.2.

    Hope this very unpleasant experience is helpful for others.

    That’s awesome news! And, thanks for your last post! Kaspersky was one of the antivirus products that I had been considering purchasing/switching to.
