[resolved] Unable to log in using IE, but able to login with Firefox (11 posts)

For some strange reason, Internet Explorer will not let me log in.

When I am on the login screen in IE, and I type the correct username and password, it just refreshes the page and empties the values entered previously. When I type an incorrect password, it says the normal incorrect password error message.

In firefox, or any mozilla 5.0 browser... I can login fine.

Cookies not enabled? What are your security settings for IE? Try either lowering them or modifying them and see what happens.

Can't help you, because I have exactly this same situation with all 4 IEs I use to check design. Now, I don't CARE, precisely, that I can't login to blogs with IE, but it is puzzling.

Just for kicks, I've tried every troubleshooting tip on MS's knowledgebase - none of which have helped. So I have no clue, but you are not alone, if that makes you feel better.

[Doesn't prompt me to upgrade to Vista, btw.... not now, not ever....]

Fixed it, sorry. It was a cookie issue. I went to internet explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options, then clicked on the privacy tab. I turned the cookie setting down to "low" and now it works fine.

Yikes! I hope you only browse to your own domain with that setting. By "lowering" I was referring to something like medium/high as opposed to Fort Knox. ;o)

Yeah, I don't use IE for anything other than making sure it's compatible. I will adjust the setting back to medium once I'm finished.

Does anyone else have to turn their cookie settings down too? Or can I just accept cookies from one particular domain?

You can set your site to be trusted in the security settings. In Internet Options click Security > Trusted Sites > Sites and add your blog. Should be golden then.

Thanks man... too bad I can't do that at work so I can post to my blog when I'm bored :(

Vkaryl, sorry dude... firefox is better anyways. Imagine if it was the other way around (IE working, and firefox not) Yikes!
