• I’m freaking out. I’m a newbie so this post may be long as I try to explain, sorry.

First quickly click http://www.DennisEdell.com and you will immediately see the issue.

Today I installed the software for My Link Guard (it’s the sw that enables redirect links to look like, mydomain.com/recommends/whatever; I’m sure you’ve seen it.

Anyway, I installed it in my public_html as instructed and resulted in what you see above. I immediately removed the folder I installed and still get what you see there.

Now the site itself was a WP blog (blog on the root)…the blog itself is still fully intact in its admin (dennisedell.com/wp-admin is fine)…..is there someway I can just click something which will “reinstall” it – for lack of a better phrase.

Please ask anything you wish, like I said, I’m new at this and what I wrote may have made no sense at all.

    Thanks so much in advance,
    Dennis

Edited to add: This is my first post here, so I apologise if I did anything wrong.

  • that install is incomplete.

theres no index.php (file) in the immediate directory. There is NO wp-includes/ directory.

The so-called “short and sweet” index.php file is missing. Check your downloaded package and find the index.php file in the root WP directory. Upload it.
(I guess you deleted it together with the other files!)

Thanks for the quick reply! 2 things tho…by download package, do you mean where i got the blog files in the first place? And, either way (if it doesn’t work) this shouldnt effect the blog itself, currently safe and sound in its admin, right?

Edited to add: Just upload straight into public_html right?

    Yes, upload it.

Nevermind, it worked! Thanks! Just hope all is good internally.

Thanks again, you’re a life saver (I live on the 2nd floor) LOL

    Dennis

You could always check the WP folder you downloaded with what’s on the server to ensure that you’ve uploaded all files.

Huh? Sorry you lost me. I didnt upload a whole folder, just the index.php

It all looks there, including this mornings post. Click my link in the first post.

Could you explain what you mean?

Woah wait, I missed the reply post by whooami. There appears to be the wp-includes now, and all I did was reupload the index.php (in my FTP program)…it all seems fine??

I think there’s some confusion here.

When you installed WordPress, did you download it from wordpress.org and then upload it to your server?

If so, what I suggested was to ensure that all the WordPress files have been uploaded — mainly because you originally said you “installed” a folder and then deleted it … but it appears that your index.php was also deleted.

Dennis, you may be new at some thing, but building web sites is not one of them.
New at dropping links in this forum, maybe, but not building web sites.

ok, I see some confusion. No it wasn’t from wp.org, I use a software creation that a marketing Friend of mine created (Brass Ring Blogging, perhaps you’ve seen it). I guess you could say, it’s a complete blog in a box, to put it basically.

Anywho, the folder I “installed and deleted” was for that particular SW program I mentioned in the 1st post…had nothing to do with any of the blog files. What happened is, within that folder was an index page, which I guess overrode the original index page; although i don’t know how since it was in a separate folder.

Like I said tho, it all looks ok now but I’m still a little worried.

    Any of this make sense?

    Dennis

P.S. I didn’t include a link to that program I mentioned so it wouldn’t seem like an ad.

Skarld – excuse me sport?? I noticed your obnoxious unwarranted post after I finished my last one.

Thank you to all that are actually being helpful tho, I really appreciate it.

Some can go crawl back under now. Intelligence insulting posts like yours is not something a newbie poster to a new forum wants to see; but I’m assuming intelligence is not your strong suit.
