    Woo hoo! Up, running, and (mostly) customized to suit; still need to sort out the footer:

    … and I only killed the whole thing once last might when I started fiddling with my index.php. Taught myself a good lesson about version control – and found an awful lot of good material in these forums.
    Non-Netscape browser checks (and other gentle criticism) welcome.

    Looks fine here in FF.9.3 and IE6
    The only thing you may want to note is that in FF the trackback URI extends out when a single entry is viewed, but it wraps in IE.

    Thanks much. Podz, looking at it, I’m getting the same thing in Netscape (7.1). Any pointers as to how that can be corrected?

    I have this in my ‘wp-comments.php’ file:
    <?php if ('open' == $post->ping_status) { ?>
    "><?php _e('TrackBack Link URI'); ?>
    <?php } ?>
    That does assume though that someone will know to right-click and copy the link location. You could add text to explain that though.
    There is probably a way that involves shorter permalinks, but rewrite rules are way out of my league.
