Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows how to import blog entries from Geeklog to WordPress? I'd appreciate any help & suggestions offered. Thanks so much! :)

Not sure if this would work perfectly with Geeklog, but...

Well, I've just tried it out. Nope, didn't work. :( I changed some of the b2 evo commands to WP using whatever knowledge of PHP I had (which isn't that much) but to no avail. Back to square one again...
    Anyone got ideas? Please help!

It's not the answer you want to hear, but depending on how many categories, posts, comments, etc. you're dealing with, you might want to consider simply copying & pasting them all over. I did some more looking around and couldn't find a better answer for you.

    I see here :
    http://www.geeklog.net/docs/config.html
that there is a setting for "rdf_limit". Why don't you try setting that to a high enough number, so you get one huge rss file, which you can them import into wordpress. Worth a shot, I'd say.

I know how to change the rdf_limit in geeklog. How do I import the rss feed into WP?

I myself am thinking about migrating my site to WP but I am not quite sure how to keep all my posts myself. I did some searching on google and found this http://www.jimweller.net/2005/05/11/302

But I know next to nothing when it comes to PHP. How difficult does it look like it would be when it comes to something like this?

Sonnyb, I think I found the answer to your question if you never found it. http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#Importing_from_an_RSS_feed

Sorry about the double post, wish I could delete my posts.

Old post, but I'm hoping with newer versions of Geeklog and WP there'll be an answer.

At any rate, importing via RSS only imports the intro text for every Geeklog entry, and drops everything into the default category. Personally, I'm hoping for something better, since my Geeklog site has almost 800 entries.

i'm interested in an answer for this, as well. i have only 173 posts, but still. i don't suppose anyone's found anything since the last post in this thread almost a month ago?

deadwing: You have to edit your RSS settings in geeklog by setting the character limit to 0. That way it puts the entire post into the RSS feed. That is how I did it anyway. It will still put everything into one default category, but at least you will have all your posts.

I'm posting this because I found this post before I found the import solution, in the hope it will help someone else:

This seems to have been resolved in November, 2006 by 'justdave' who posted a geeklog importer. Check out ticket #3398 on http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3398
for the script. Basically, you download the original version of that script and drop it into your wp_admin/import folder. Here's what I did which worked: I restored a backup of my geeklog database (1.4.0) into the wordpress database using phpmyadmin (I didn't have luck trying to import from a separate database), then I just navigated to the import tab in Wordpress, chose the geeklog import, and filled in the required fields. note: my tables all had 'gl_' prefixed (as do most Geeklog installs) so I made sure to add that in the appropriate field. About 10 of my 320 stories had a problem, but it got all my comments and users. Then I just dropped all the imported geeklog tables from the wordpress database using phpmyadmin.
