Smart Archives help needed

I’ve been trying to get the Smart Archives plug-in to work on my blog, but keep failing miserably. I don’t quite understand the implementation instructions – specifically where we’re supposed to put in the code to make it work. I’ve tried all sorts of things but nothing works. I don’t know anything about php so messing around with the templates is not really much of an option for me since i have no idea what i’m doing. Would someone who got the thing to work be willing to email me so we could try to sort it out together on MSN or something?
